My 111th Post and my 1st Contest!

Even better than a 1/1 is three 1's in a row. Yep, i completely missed my 1ooth post and since a few other fellow bloggers got to 100 recently, it made me realize the error of my ways. Now it might seem silly to celebrate 111 but really its way cooler, because it is the number one, three times, no odd circle shapes, making it a true milestone. But enough of my silly ramble, in all seriousness, I have really enjoyed my time blogging and want to thank everyone for making it a fun and pleasant experience. I am very grateful to all the friends I have made through this and hope to make many more. I have gotten up to 45 followers, which still amazes me, and have made 38 trades, definitely bringing back the true joy of the hobby for me. I hope you enjoy my TWIC and other rambles and i greatly appreciate all the people who stop by and keep coming back.

As a BIG THANK YOU to all those who check out my blog out, i have decided to hold my first contest. Up for grabs will be one 87 Fleer Update Glossy set and one 1990 Update set. Yep that means there will be two winners :)

Totally taken from BA Benny's contest with a slight tweak to a few questions. All you have to do is leave a comment on one or all of the following subjects and I will random off a winner from the list of all the comments.
  • What do you like about my blog and want to see more of?
  • What is your favorite card when you were a kid? (if you didn't collect back then, tuff noogies :) you lose an entry or you could lie to me, how would i know :)
  • Who will the Rays beat when they win the 2010 World Series?
  • What is your favorite card you received through a trade with a fellow blogger?
For each question you answer you will get an extra entry. I will also give an extra entry if you are a follower, new or old, and another two extra entries if you post a link on your blog to this contest.

That makes 7 possible entries. The contest will end Thursday June 10th around 6 o'clock NY time.

Thanks so much for reading my blog

GOOD LUCK!!!

GO RAYS!!!!

Congrats on your 100th and 111th posts man!

-I like that your blog has a clear focus. It's fun seeing what you pull from packs. I think it might be interesting to see a post about the hobby more often. Maybe analyse a set that you like or stuff like that.

-By far, my favorite card as a kid was the 1999 UD MVP Derek Jeter card. I love love love that set and Jeter is my favorite player. Also it was extra special because I got it in packs I was buying at the baseball stadium. Sadly my bro ruined the card when he slammed the snap case closed right across the middle of the card.

-The Rays will beat the Pirates in the world series..... psych

-My favorite card from a trade is the 09 sweet spot Roy Halladay patch card #d/25 that I got from Mike over at Jd's Wild Cards.

I'm also gonna post on my blog and I'm a follower. I think that makes 7 for me

hat do you like about my blog and want to see more of?

I am returning to the fringes of the hobby after a 10 year hiatus and having spent the past two years reading baseball card blogs in complete envy of collectors. As such, I can relate to your limited budget perspective and your content helps to offset the "mojo" collectors I sometimes encounter (though mostly on Youtube). You should not change anything. More TWIC, perhaps, but that would kill the theme.

What is your favorite card when you were a kid? (if you didn't collect back then, tuff noogies :) you lose an entry or you could lie to me, how would i know :)

1986 Topps Whitey Herzog - though not for any known childhood fondness for the Cardinals or Whitey Herzog

Who will the Rays beat when they win the 2010 World Series?

The Reds will channel their 1990 team and march through the playoffs. But this is the year for the Rays.

What is your favorite card you received through a trade with a fellow blogger?

a Flair Bip Roberts card that was converted into a sticker autograph 1/1 signed by Chris Harris at StaleGum - His blog was the first I read, and through the sidebar links, I rediscovered a magical cardboard world.

Thank you for your contributions to our hobby. Don't stop.

- Reader Steve

1. I like your commitment to baseball card collecting on a budget. You show that you can get good stuff, have fun and not go broke.

2. 1975 Ron Cey.

3. Well, if the Rays are going to win the World Series then I'm going to pick an NL team I hate. I'll say Padres, not that they'll make it that far.

4. Wow, too many to choose from. Collective Troll sent me a '72 Ron Cey rookie. That was nice.

Congrats on 111. I guess this means you have to celebrate post No. 222.

Thanks so much for the kind words

Nico great suggestion, i will definitely try and add a few extra posts relating to the hobby, and fav sets. The Jeter should be even more special because your brother did that, adding to its character, and giving it a little history, poor old cardboard :)

Steve, i often think about breaking TWIC in smaller portions to boost posts but always end up just doing one post for the entire blaster, i think i enjoy the bigger format to much to change. Very unique card for a favorite as a kid, Whitey Herzog, i remember it well :)

Night Owl, that 75 Cey is classic, yellow and red all around a dodger, talk about contrast. I was thinking 1111 but yeah 222 would be a great place too :)

I love numbers where every digit is the same.

Now for my answers:

1. I like the TWIC segments. It's nice to see a fellow collector with a budget as limited as mine.

2. My favorite card as a kid was the 1987 Donruss Mark McGwire Rated Rookie.

3. Don't care who the Rays beat in the World Series as that means that my Tigers didn't make it.

4. Didn't get it in a trade exactly but rather a group break. My 2009 UD Icons Al Kaline auto patch. Wasn't a trade but wouldn't have it if not for the blog world.

Congrats on 111! Great number to celebrate with a contest. I am honored you are using my format and I like the extra entries per question. On to my answers:

•What do you like about my blog and want to see more of?
I like the commitment to $20 per week and am impressed at your use of the budget. I also like the style in which you write your posts. I want to see more of the same, I enjoy your blog.

•What is your favorite card when you were a kid?
It is strange for me to say but my 1975 Topps George Brett rc being a mets fan and all. The 75 set is one of my favorites and I Brett was an awesome player. Too bad my mom tossed my collection and I have never gotten back that card. I would love to try and put that set back together but I don't know if I can get it done.

•Who will the Rays beat when they win the 2010 World Series?
I will go with the Phillies as I would love to see them lose again.

•What is your favorite card you received through a trade with a fellow blogger?
That is a tough one since I have gotten so many really cool cards from trades. I will say a 2010 Topps Finest Tobi Stoner Auto Letter Patch card. I Love the way it looks and I am was going through a letter patch craze at the time I got it.

There you have it and the link is

Thanks for running a fun contest.

What do you like about my blog and want to see more of? I like that you include tons of pictures of what you pull. A lot of blogs don't include pictures. I would like to see more something of the day posts. That would be awesome.
What is your favorite card when you were a kid? (if you didn't collect back then, tuff noogies :) you lose an entry or you could lie to me, how would i know :)
I used to love the Mets (Gag) and my favorite was my dual jersey card of Piazza and Reyes, /360. It was Reyes rookie.

Who will the Rays beat when they win the 2010 World Series? No matter how much I wanna say the stros will come back, it's gonna be the braves
What is your favorite card you received through a trade with a fellow blogger?
My triple swatch of Pence, Oswalt, and Berkman that I got from Matt

Congrats on the 100, btw

Wicked, WOW! a 68 Bench, that is one awesome card, and an all Florida World Series would be LEGENDARY :)

RoofGod always loved those Rated Rookies, so miss them.

BA Benny i really like how your contest brought out collecting stories, so i decided to tweak it a little in hopes of reading some more. So glad you didn't mind :) The 75 Brett is a classic card and actually wicked scored one for a dollar awhile ago, so there is hope. Best of luck in your hunt :)
Rays Revenge, would be sweet, Heh heh, he said stoner :)

Cam i like pictures too, that's why i do it and i wish i could post everyday, great triple swatch

Thanks so much for entering and sharing some collecting history

1. I like the budget aspect of your blog.

2. I was and always have been a fan of the Vince Coleman/Willie McGee "Fleet Feet" 1986 Donruss card as well as its Fleer counterpart ("Cardinals Ignitors").

3. The Stephen Strasburgs

4. I like the shiny, rainbowy serial numbered stuff and the jersey cards and all that. But I would probably have to say that my favorite thing to receive is a card from one of the regional/local/oddball issues like the DAV 2007 and 2008 Cardinals team sets that I got from a reader/fellow blogger.

I'll answer them all, just for fun.

1) What do you like about my blog and want to see more of?

I LOVE SEEING OTHER COLLECTORS WHO ALSO STICK TO BUDGETS AND ENJOY EVERYTHING THEY BUY!

What is your favorite card when you were a kid? (if you didn't collect back then, tuff noogies :) you lose an entry or you could lie to me, how would i know :)

1987 TOPPS KURT STILLWELL. HE'S GOT FLIP-UP SHADES, ACTUAL STIRRUPS, IS TAGGING THE BAG ON A DOUBLE PLAY, AND THERE'S AN ADVERTISEMENT IN THE BACKGROUND WITH AN APPLE ON IT. IT'S THE ALL-AMERICAN BASEBALL CARD!

Who will the Rays beat when they win the 2010 World Series?

THE NATIONALS. STRASBURG WILL START EVERY GAME IN SEPTEMBER... THE NATS WILL WIN THEM ALL.

What is your favorite card you received through a trade with a fellow blogger?

I'VE GOTTEN A FEW PILES OF RELICS, BUT THE BEST CARD ACQUIRED FROM ANOTHER BLOGGER IS THE JOBA CHAMBERLAIN CODEBREAKER AUTO 1/1 FROM 2009 GINTER, SENT TO ME BY MIKE OF JD'S WILDCARDZ.

Sorry for the all caps, just wanted to differentiate my answers from the questions! I felt like answering all of them, just for fun. Thanks for the contest!
